Pokemon Sapphire, My First Nuzlocke: Weather Institute & Gym Leader Winona

So I cleared the Weather Institute.  No problems, not even with the Admin. The only story even worth telling was I gave Sheocka a prism berry because I couldn't remember if she had a Zubat/Golbat or not. On her last Pokemon I decided to let Sheocka stay in to Thunder Wave it, just to be on the safe side and her Pokemon Swagger me. Giving me a free attack boost due to the prism berry. So Sheocka swept the admin all by herself, 'cause who am I to turn down a gift horse. What is more worth mentioning though is now I get my own Castform! This thing is easily one of my favorite 3rd gen. Pokemon right with Aron. Not sure if I want to use it on my pretty established and train team or not though.

Up ahead, I find May around the place and we fight. It wasn't really much trouble at all. For each of her Pokemon I had a Pokemon that countered it pretty well. Beating her earned me the HM for fly. Fly is decent but its not as good as I remember it being. It's only slightly stronger than Wing Attack and takes two turns, granted with a few exceptions I'm invulnerable to attacks so in those cases it's like a 1 turn move that takes more of my time. I'll hold off until after I get the badge that lets me use it outside of battle because if it wasn't for it's convince in traveling, I wouldn't be teaching it to Hurrcane ever to be honest. Wing Attack is already pretty good in comparison.

With that I make it to Fortree City and begin exploring. I can't get into the gym quite yet, so I just explored around town and got the Hidden Power TM. Want to teach it to someone but don't know who has what type of Hidden Power so maybe I'll play around with that later. So onwards to route 120. A new route with new Pokemon and new possibilities to widen the variety on my team... and it's a Linone... well, technically since Mr. Pickup isn't evolved that's a new Pokemon so I I caught it. I'm calling it Lucy because it's a girl and there was something lucky about it... probably that it should be lucky I actually bother to catch it. Probably should of just waited and caught that Kelcon in that scripted fight, but no, I had to knock it out.

Well at least I can go to the gym now, but 2 of my party members are weak to flying types so they'll need to sit this gym out... and I have a lot of Pokemon that are weak to flying sitting in PC... best two I have are my new Castform and Lady Tenti so I gotta train them up to be close to the rest of my team in case I need them. That could take awhile. Also the reason I haven't gave Castform a nickname yet is because it joined me without giving me the option to give it a nickname. So I got to backtrack all the way to the name rater to take care of that as well. So after making it back to the name rater I name my Castform Nimbus, after the type of cloud because that's the only cloud name I can come close to spelling on my own.

Since I was all the way at Slateport with plenty of money to spare, I decided to buy 2 Irons and 2 HP Ups for Nimbus to help make him into something useable without dieing in battles. What disappoints me most about Castform is that it's one of those Pokemon who really need an evolution. It's got a cool concept but it just doesn't seem to have the stats to back it up. Since this is the main game maybe it'll be able to hold it's own though? I hope. I also withdrew all my Rare Candies so I can use some of them to speed up the level-up process but not until I battle with them a bit first so the level ups are more worthwhile. So a little training later, Nimbus learned Weather Ball and Lady Tenti evolved into a Tentatcruel. I used a few of my PP ups ...well up to increase the PP of Weather Ball since it's pretty low for a move only slightly more powerful than Powder Snow. Actually, just looked it up on Bulbapedia and it increases to a base power of 100 in the weather, I just had a feeling it changed base power somewhere. For some reason I thought it was more powerful in the sun.

So I decide to finally head to the gym. Getting through the gym trainers and puzzles wasn't much of a problem. Even Nimbus and Lady Tenti were able to handle them, no problem. So I got to the gym leader... and then decided to train some more to round up Nimbus and Lady Tenti's levels from the experience they earned from the trainers. So then came the moment I've been waiting to get over with, the gym leader fight.

Sheocka was able to take care of most of the Pokemon on her own. The only Pokemon really even worth noting was that cursed Alteria. It was the second Pokemon she sent out. I decided since it was a dragon/flying type to give Nimbus a chance. I could of set up the hail for the stab weather ball. However, I thought since it was 4X weak to ice that Powder Snow would do plenty. However, it barely even did a quarter of the Pokemon's health. I would of set up the hail then, but that Alteria started Dragon Dancing which got me in panic mode. I was begging the game for the freeze, but I didn't get it. After two Dragon Dances it went for the Earthquake... earthquake. I forgot this Alteria had that, despite it being the major issue with this gym when I was playing through this game with a Pikachu family line only run.

I watch Nimbus's health crawled down... and it only went down to around half. I had a huge sigh of relief because I was worried Nimbus was a goner. But I wasn't sure what to do next. I considered to switch to Lady Tenti to take the hit. But I decided to stay in and beg for the freeze... thankfully I got better, I got the critical hit, finishing the Pokemon off. It was incredible, I'm real glad I didn't switch to Lady Tenti. In my panic, I forgot Lady Tenti was weak to Earthquake, there would have been no chance of its survival if I made that stupid play. Also Nimbus basically saved Sheocka's life, since I completely forgot about Earthquake on that Alteria. If I kept Sheocka in, that cursed Alteria would of Earthquaked Sheocka to its death. Instead, Nimbus was able to gain the glory of the gym and Sheocka was able to sweep the rest of the gym.

So with a new badge obtained, I can move on with my adventure. I really want to use Nimbus on my team, but with how well rounded my team currently is, I'm not sure where I would put him. It will be great to hold on to it though, since Ice types are rare to get in Hoenn so Nimbus will be able to act as my ice type when I need it. Plus it is a Nuzlocke, so I can't forget that I could loose a friend any time in this adventure. I'm especially worried about Zip'd just because it is an early stage bug type and those Pokemon tend not to be too strong late in the game, it's pretty amazing how far he's gotten as is. However, with its current move set, I don't plan on losing him any time soon. Well in the meantime, I did a little bit of training to get Nimbus up to the rest of the team in case I find a place for him on it and might as well train Zip'd while I'm at it since he's starting to fall a little behind with the levels. Afterwords, I suppose I can go on with my adventure... but is Hurracane really the only Pokemon on my team that can learn fly? ...yeah he really is the only Pokemon out of all the ones I own that can learn fly...

Pokemon Sapphire, My First Nuzlocke: First water routes and Route 119

So with my new found surf, I begin my surfing adventures by heading towards Dewford. In the process I came across some new routes so meaning more chances to get new wild Pokemon. Though I swear the only two wild Pokemon you can find are Wingull and Tentacool. Considering I already caught a Wingull, that means the only new Pokemon I got was a Tentacool, which isn't all that bad, but I wish there was more wild Pokemon I could get in these waters. I decided to name it Lady Tenti. I forget the reason, but I swear it wasn't just for the pun.

When finally making it to Dewford, I got something I've been looking forward giving to Zip'd for a long time, the TM for Sludge Bomb. At long last, Zip'd finally gets something decent he got STAB (same type attack bonus) from. Continuing onwards just so I can get all the trainers in the water I missed while on the boat, Code Red evolved during that training and learned Rock Slide in the process. So if I'm not mistaken, that means Dubstep is the only one who has yet to be fully evolved. This team is coming along quite nicely.

So I stopped by the sunken ship, but I'm not sure if I want to do it yet. I can't fully explore the place till later anyways but I might be able to at least pick-up some items, money experience from trainers. I eventually decided to go in since I need something to do while rendering videos anyways. Picking up some minor items and batting some trainers later I came across the TM for Ice Beam. Which will be very useful, though I'm going to wait a little bit before teaching it to one of my Pokemon. With a little more trainer training I made full circle over to Slateport and doing so I can head back to Mauvilve City.

I decided to run Wattson's little favor because the reward you get could be real useful. ...of course I derped again and forgot new Mauvilve was a new area so I could catch the first wild Pokemon I saw, if I remembered that. >_> Oh well, at least I already have a electric type on my team. So I did that task and picked up the Thunderbolt TM. Heck, while I'm in a sidequesting mood I'd better take care of that fossil too. So I get that resurrected but what to call this Anorith? After a bit of thought, I decided to call him Lloyd, I believe like the character from the Tales game. I was thinking about knights so I was leaning towards Flynn but I decided to go for Lloyd. I'm honestly not sure if Lloyd even has anything to do with knights in his game, but that's the name.

Well, at least with all my sidequesting out of the way I can move on with the game. So I went back over to Mauvilve and surf over to the right to get to a new route. Fighting trainers along the way, including the interviewers, Zip'd leveled up and finally learned Silver Wind. At long last I have a bug type move. Anyways, wait, new route? New wild Pokemon! After a quick talk with Steven I can head into that grass and get a new Pokemon! And it's another Wingull... I didn't even think they appeared in the grass on this route.

I was gonna talk for a fishman for experience and it turned out that he was the guy that gave me the good rod. It's about time I got a new rod. Too bad I already gave my shot at trying to get a wild Pokemon for this route. Oh well, it'll be good to have since I think I already have all the water Pokemon I can get from surfing and the old rod probably can't get be anything better than Magikarp. Well, might as well head off to the berry master to claim all of the berries. So after that, time to head upwards and with this is a new route with a new chance to hopefully get a new Pokemon and it turns out to be an Oddish. Granted, I don't really need more grass types but it feels like I haven't caught a new Pokemon in a long time so I'll take it. I was able to actually catch it but what to name it. I got it! Tulipnia since it happened to be a girl. Sadly Tulipnia is gonna sit in the box for a very long time now.

So I finally made it to the Weather Institute, fighting all the trainers along the way. There's a bed to rest my Pokemon and my team has well earned that rest. Sadly the place has been taken over by Team Aqua, so I'll have to take care of them later.
