Pokemon Sapphire, My First Nuzlocke: Winstrate Family & Fiery Path

Well with the 3rd gym done, I suppose my first priority is to catch Sheocka and Hurrcane up with the rest of the team. Sheocka had some rough times during grinding and of course I kept Hurracane as far away from that gym as I could. Since most of my team is still in perfect health from that gym, I decided to try and grind them up in levels before using a healing item.

Now that I'm done with the 3rd gym. I'm seriously considering boxing Tin Timber for hopefully the rest of the run. Simple answer is I don't need two grass types and I rather use Funghiness because it's fighting and grass and doing good so far with both types. Of course, Plumppickl is a pure fighting type so it's a bit redundant in type coverage to have him too but until I catch more Pokemon to cover my teams weakness Plumppickl is certainly better than no Pokemon at all. A stater Pokemon probably would have the be stronger than Funghiness, but Tin Timber will still be around in case I changed my mind and you know... in case something terrible happens.

During my grinding Hurrancane came way too close to doom, but I was able to save him, thanks to the berries I put away. Can't believe I forgot to withdraw my Antidotes and Full Heals after the gym. Well, certainly am doing that before I progress onwards. Speaking of Hurrancane, thanks to the experience share, he was able to get enough experience to evolve into a Pelipper. Now the only to main members of my team not fully evolved are Dubstep and Sheocka. The latter who shouldn't be that far away from said evolution.

So I decided to take on the Winstrate family and what was I worried about? I took them all on without any worries of death what-so-ever. Didn't even get much experience or money from it but I guess a little experience is better than none. After that I took a trip to Vertanturf to complete the Rustbro Cave. One rock smash and a couple were reunited and I got the Strength HM. Despite not having the badge to use Strength outside battles I'm tempted to use it since Strength is a pretty good move for this point of the game. Anyways, I put PlumpPickl at the day care for now since I want Mr.Pickup around to get items while I fight the trainers. I might put him back in the party after I get some trainers taken care of but for now it'll be raised there.

So now that I cleared all the trainers before Mt. Chimney and there's a patch of grass right nearby so let's see if I can catch a new Pokemon. It turns out to be a Numel, cool! I could use a fire type and a ground type when it evolves into one. Now... what to call it? Well Mt. Dew is on my mind so I was considering calling it Lava Dew... but I went with Code Red. Maybe I do have Mt. Dew issues... so Code Red was sent to the PC, so I'm gonna go back and take him out so I can train him a bit... after I grind a little to make use of the free heal for catching a Pokemon rule I have.

While doing that, Sheocka evolved into Mangectric! I forgot that evolution was coming up so soon. Well that evolution certainly gave her enough health to fight on her own... if it wasn't for the fact the majority of the Pokemon on this route are ground types. I actually forgot Numel started as a fire/ground type well at least I got that mistake out of the way before it really bit me in the butt. Since I have to have Mr.Pickup in my party to get pass the Rock Smashable rocks I guess Zip'd will be spending some time in the day care as well while I raise Code Red.

Well into the Fiery Path since it's technically a new area time to catch another new Pokemon! It was a Torkal, which would have been cool despite having just caught a fire type... if I didn't faint it in the process! I swear quick attack barely did anything but Spark 1-hit KOed it.... I guess I underestamated Sheocka's strength. At least I have Code Red, I think his typing better balances my team anyways, plus he can evolve while Torkal can't. Guess it was faith. So I cleared the rest of the trainers in Route 111 and did some grinding to try and get Code Red up in levels to the rest of the team. Though I won't deny any experience I can get for the others in the process. Brought some Rare Candys along with me to speed along the process as well. Actually we'll be going pretty far, so I think I'm gonna take PlumpPickl and Zip'd out of the Day Care and put them in the PC for now so I'll have access to them if I need them in future routes ahead. Along the way of going back to the Day Care, I found Grimers appear in the Fiery Path. That stinks but again, it must have been faith. After getting my Pokemon out of there, I made my way back to where I was. There's a nice old lady who's willing to give my Pokemon a rest for free, so I should make use of that and make my way onwards later.

Pokemon Sapphire, My First Nuzlocke: Gym Leader Wattson

So as I started my Nuzlocke run for the day, I decided to take care of the trainers that were to the left of Mauville City. Just to get the money and experience out of the way while I'm grinding and have full health on the team. With some training, I finally got Funghiness to a high enough level to evolve! With that evolution it learns Mac Punch. Finally! A fully evolved Pokemon with a fighting type move. Just what I need for the upcoming gym!

BTW I got to stop watching videos when I go into new routes... I forgot to catch the first Pokemon I saw! >_> On the brightside I'm pretty sure it was a Rosella, which I wouldn't use considering I already have two grass types, but you never know what will happen in a Nuzlocke. Well bye-gones are bye-gones, I'll just have to be careful at the next gym and make up for my foolery in the next route I go to.

Sheocka did get poison in the process of training but I was able to make it back to the Pokemon Center without it dieing, granted I was watching it's health and if it got too low I would of used a Pecha Berry, still I saved myself a healing item. In the process I decided to check out the Verdanturf Town mart... and there are no more Potions so I guess I'm either gonna have to backtrack or drop Super Potions whenever I want to heal now... joy.

So I started to grind and thought before I use up anymore health and PP I might as well talk to Wally, who's blocking the next gym BTW. Dubstep made quicker work out of it than I thought with a simple Astonish. I was starting to forget I had that move. :P Hmm... this is interesting though. It seems like Mr. Pickup picked up a Protein from that fight. I guess it will go to DubStep, even though PlumpPickl has the least attack out of my Psychical attackers. It should be evolving real soon therefore getting a lot of attack and Dubstep had the second least amount of attack stat. Still really good with the health so let's see how many gym trainers I can take care of. Answer is enough to level PlumpPickl up to evolution.

So that takes care of all the gym trainers so I don't accidentally run into anyone when it is time to take on the gym leader. My team is still pretty healthy so I think I'll do some more grinding before I heal, then to decide if I should take on the gym leader. There isn't too much more I can do before taking on the gym. Trust me, if there was I would. Actually there's still the north but I still need Rock Smash before I can fully explore it. Might see what I can do depending on my team's levels after training. Speaking of, got another Protein, a few Ultra Balls, and even several Rare Candies from Mr. Pickup, so thanks to Mr. Pickup! You're awesome even when you're not on the main team anymore!

So with nothing else left between me and the leader, I take him on. First Magamite, which Funghiness takes out with ease. Then comes out what I've dreaded this entire game... Volbtorb. I've seen Nuzlockes where this guy takes out a Pokemon with him so I wasn't sure what to do... I decided to leave Funghiness out only because he had the best defense. I decided to lead off with a headbutt hoping if it didn't finish it off it would flinch it. Then the unthinkable happened, Volbtorb outsped me... and went for Sonicboom. Thank the lord it wasn't selfdestruct. But after my headbutt it lived in the red health. “Oh no!” I thought, “if it's gonna explode, it's gonna do it now”, and with Funghiness not having full health, I wasn't sure he could take the move.

After much thought, I finally realized, I have Mach Punch! I can finish it off before it even gets the chance to attack! But as I was going for the Mach Punch, Wattson went for the Super Potion, which completely healed him. If I couldn't get more than half damage with this Mach Punch Funghiness may not make it out of this gym alive! As I watch the Volbtorb health goes down... it goes to the orange and Yes! Half health! Funghiness can do this. With one more Mach Punch I take the Volbtrob down. I then give a sigh of relief, because the worst part, what I fear most about this gym was done... never to bother the team again. Granted there was still a Magneton to deal with. Despite Funghiness being pretty full in health, I decided to switch over to PlumpPickl, just to be safe. With some arm thrust and tanking a paralyzation, the Magneton goes down and I get a nice new gym badge. With it comes the ability to finally use Rock Smash and the TM for Shock wave. Overall, an easy gym, probably because of my grinding, but for this one especially, I'd rather be safe than sorry. Now that I don't have to worry about electric types as much, I think I'm gonna get Hurracane from the day care... and it learned Mist from the daycare...yay with all the sarcasms... well, at least I still have the important moves still. Yay for planning before sending a Pokemon into a daycare, this time without sarcasm! Anyways I suppose with that I'll continue my adventures onward!

Pokemon Sapphire, My First Nuzlocke: Team Aqua and May

So I'm finally ready to head off against Team Aqua in Slateport... and I took care of them without the slightest problem. Oh well, better safe than sorry. Since I took them out in record time and health, I suppose I can explore the rest of the route that's now open and fight the trainers along the way. So after a pretty annoying Pluse and Minum fight, I decide my next desination would be the Trick House, a good place to pick up some items and experience from the trainers within. So I got through that with everyone alive and claimed the Rare Candy. Next came clearing all the trainers to the left of the trick house. I'll admit there were some close calls in the training, especially since with Dubstep once I start using uproar, I can't switch out until it finishes even if it only has a quarter of it's health left when it's done. >_> Really hate how risky the move is, but it's the best thing Dubstep can do for now. With that done, I know there's a rival fight coming up so I think I'll do a little more training before I progress onwards.

In the process of grinding DubStep evolved into a Loudred. A bit of a shame I didn't even get to see it though since I was grinding and he had the Experience Share. So by the time I realized it he was already evolved. Oh well, I'll take it, especially for the next gym. I don't know if it's ironic or not, but it happened while I was watching “an AttackingTucans video”. I'm embarrassed just to admit that, let alone which one but it's certainly was something that DubStep evolved during that. Also took the time to look up the levels of Watson's Pokemon just to make sure I wasn't underlevel by the time I get to the gym. Considering his Pokemon are all in the low 20s and all but Tim Timber are at least Lv.20, I think I'll be good by the time I get there. Therefore I certainly should be ready for May, just got to finish getting the most training out of my Pokemon's health.

So then I go head-to-head with May herself... and she isn't any trouble at all. Well I was a little worried with Walimer and roll-out but there are Walimer I fight later on the route that gave me more trouble. Hurracne was great against Combuskin which is good considering this will be his last major fight until after the 3rd gym. Electricty is no good for a water/flying type. After words, I took on the rest of the trainers on the route, picked up a bike, and took on the trainers on the bike path. (Also picked up the coin case by exchanging a harbor mail I had to backtrack for.) I had a close call with PlumpPickl when I was getting to use to switching into him with to get Sheocka experience with the Magamites. Dang a critcal Thundershock does a lot. Thank goodness PlumpPickl didn't die, I really need him and Shroomhiness for the next gym. Though Shoroomhiness won't be too helpful if he doesn't evolve before the gym... he's getting close though.

After that I think I'll clear some of the trainers to the right of this town containing the third gym and check it out later. In the meantime, here's my team.

Team:
Tin Timber the Grovile Lv.22
Funghiness the Shroomish Lv.22
Zip'd the Dustox Lv. 21
DubStep the Loudred Lv. 21
PlumpPickl the Matikuia Lv. 21
Sheocka the Electrike Lv. 21

Onstandby:
Hurracane the Wingull Lv.20
Mr.Pickup the Zigzagoon Lv.14
etc.

Sapphire, My First Nuzlocke: Sailport City Grinding

So before heading off to Slateport, I decided to go back to Rustboro City and see if I could pick up the Exp. Share I get as an award for delivering the letter right away. If I have to deliver the package first, at least my Pokemon will get experience along the way. It was a good time to train PlumPickl, since he got a few levels just from the trip. Also with me getting more and more Pokemon I snapped and finally decided to teach Mr. Pickup cut. Was it worth it, well, if I don't end up using him, then yes consider it gave me a bit more trainer experience and some berries. I was disappointed when one of the items behind a cut tree was an X-item though. Turns out I made the right choice going back since I was able to get the experience share which will make training weaker Pokemon like PlumPickl a lot easier.

So then I sailed back to Sailport and fought all the trainers on the beach I was actually surprised how I didn't need to use the Pokemon Center for all of them. I did cut it close when I accidentally sent out PlumPickl out with half health, but thankfully it was only an Azmual so he was able to handle it. So after doing all that again getting some free Soda Pop, I decided to go through Slateport city and train in the route above. I almost forgot that it was a new route though and almost missed out catching a new Pokemon. Thankfully I remembered on the first wild Pokemon, an Electrike. It was actually difficult catching it, since I put Shroomhiness in the box to train on that route. With some good timing with Hurrancaine weakening it and one of the Ultra Balls Mr.Pickup got for me, I managed to grab it. It was actually a girl so after some thought I decided to call it Sheocka, a play on the combination of the words “Shock” and “Sheba” from the Golden Sun games, who is a wind adapt, therefore can wield lighting as well. I get the feeling Sheocka is going to play a role in my team in the future since I need to start working on balancing my team's typing now that got more than 6 Pokemon to work with. I realize there's gonna be so Team Aqua fights required between now and the gym and while they're usually not that bad as the gyms, I still gotta be careful.

So I did quite a bit of grinding while watching videos on Youtube. Bad idea I know, but I pay enough attention to the game and tend to grind really safe, (not letting a Pokemon battle if it's even close to half healh), so it's been going real smooth so far everyone minus Mr. Pickup is at Lv.16 right now. The experience share has been great for training so far. If a Pokemon is too weak to train but needs the experience, it can just hold onto it until it gets on par with the rest of the team. It's been real useful for Sheocka since she doesn't really have any good moves for battle yet. Can't wait until it learns Spark at Lv.20. I also looked up what levels the grunts I would be at that I have to fight would be at and all my team members are certainly ready to fight them. But since I'm just watching videos anyways, the more experience my party gets now, the safer they'll be in future battles, especially the 3rd gym. Really worried about that. Oh I guess it's worth noting that I think Tin Timber is actually gonna sit in the box for a little while, since Funghiness is already a grass type. So I took care of the events to go into the museum and I think here is where I'll call it a-due.

Current Main Team:
Funghiness (Shroomish) Lv.19
DubStep (Whismur) Lv. 16
